Wind and dry conditions helped spread a grass fire Friday afternoon across 40 acres in the 14600 block of Coffee Creek. Luther Fire, along with multiple other agencies, stopped the spreading flames from destroying nearby homes and structures. Large billows of smoke were seen for miles around.
The cause is under investigation but it appeared to start on the side of the road raising suspicions of a thrown cigarette or something similar.
Fire danger on Saturday is expected to be worse than today.
