Still alive. Both teams of Division Champion Luther Lions advance in the march to the state tournament. The next games for the boys and girls teams are Saturday night taking on Hooker in the Area One Regionals in Waukomis at Pleasant-Vale.
In Mounds Thursday, the Lions and the Lady Lions both faced the Pawnee Black Bears in the first round. Both the Black Bears and the Lions took the court as their district champs, but it was the Lions who kept their winning streak.
Lady Lions 49, Lady Black Bears 46
Lions 72, Black Bears, 50.

Lions’ senior Syrus Grisby played an outstanding game with 32 points. His four dunks in the second half were the icing on the cake and got the packed Luther crowd on its feet. He also had 18 rebounds and three assists.
Gerald McCauley scored 12 points and added seven rebounds to his 200 rebound benchmark he accomplished last week. Jake Lombard scored 11 points, Tyler Becker scored six, Luke Mohr and Nick Hines score four each and Cole Mills scored two.
The boys game entertained Lions fans because of Grisby’s dunks, but the girls game kept the fans on the edge of their seats.
The Lady Lions and Lady Black Bears scored at the same pace the first quarter until Raychel Stanfield and Caitlin Bailey scored three-pointers to give the Lady Lions a lead they kept up most of the game.

The fourth quarter was intense, though. Going in, the score was 35-30, but the Lady Black Bears stole the ball and scored twice, one a three-pointer. Then, Shawntae Silva stole the ball twice and scored.
Halfway through the quarter, Bailie Wilds landed a three-pointer, and the Lady Black Bears scored one also to tie at 44.
Bailey stole the ball then to score and Stanfield made two free throws to secure the 49-46 victory.
Stanfield scored 16 points for the night, Bailey scored 12, Lauren Coates scored nine and Bailie Wilds scored five.

YOU NEED TO CORRECT this article: Pioneer IS NOT Waukomis, 2 different areas, 2 different communities, 2 different schools.
Actually Pioneer high school is out in the country, no town within 6 miles, it is east of Waukomis but has a Waukomis address.
