If you’ve noticed contractors working around Luther, they’re laying the groundwork for expanded broadband options. The latest provider, Centranet—a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Rural Electric Cooperative—is extending its high-speed fiber internet beyond its existing service area. While many residents and businesses already have access to Centranet as co-op members, this expansion means more rural communities can benefit from its reliable, high-speed internet. Centranet highlights perks like multiple Wi-Fi connections, faster speeds for work and school, smoother gaming, and improved access to telehealth services.

Recently, the Luther Register reached out for more information. Centranet President Mark Prather sent the following:
“Centranet is excited to partner with the Town of Luther and the Oklahoma Broadband Office (OBO) to bring high-speed fiber internet to the community. This project is made possible through the ARPA/SLFRF grant program.
“Centranet will soon be completing construction in Wellston, OK and anticipates a smooth transition of resources to begin work in Luther soon.
“Providing reliable high-speed internet access in rural areas like Luther presents significant infrastructure challenges and expense. However, thanks to federal grant programs administered by the OBO, Centranet is actively working to bridge the digital divide in Oklahoma.
This project is more than just an infrastructure upgrade. It’s an investment in Luther’s future, driving economic growth, creating new job opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Centranet is committed to expanding broadband access throughout rural Oklahoma, ensuring that all Oklahomans can thrive in the digital age. We are delighted to serve the Town of Luther and look forward to a successful partnership.”
Mark Prather, President, Centranet

Other internet providers are also expanding into the area, thanks in part to federal grant funding for rural broadband expansion. Each company has presented its plans to the Town of Luther Board of Trustees, negotiating contracts to bring service within town limits. More high-speed internet options in rural areas mean better service, competitive pricing, and the freedom to choose the provider that best fits your needs. Which provider do you use?

Um, we have had Cox fiber Internet for almost a year now… You’re a bit late to the party.
Oh for sure, I’m late to the party, but trying to catch up. Centranet announced yesterday so I went with it. Thanks for commenting.
