Betty Mae McCartney Sexton, 84, of Luther, OK, entered the gates of Heaven on January 28, 2025. Betty was born February 29, 1940, to Walter and Ruth McCartney in Sardis, OK. Betty spent 84 years on this earth, but being a leap-year baby, she technically only had 21 birthdays —keeping her younger than all her children and all but one of her grandchildren. It was a fact she and her children loved to joke about.
Betty blended her family with Bill Sexton’s when they married on August 28, 1970. Together, they added two more daughters to the group. Betty enjoyed traveling with Bill. She loved spending time with family and catching up with friends at the Roosters Café, family reunions, and at the Pow-Wows. She enjoyed embroidering, watching game shows & old westerns, and working crossword, word search, and other puzzles, all while spoiling whatever lap dog she had at the moment.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Sexton; two brothers, Freddie Wilkinson and Arthur Laengrich; sister Marie Laengrich; and granddaughter Jessica Keefer.
Betty is survived by her children—Marilyn Young and husband, Larry of Kansas City; Jerry Sexton and wife, Janelle of Edmond; Ronnie McCartney of Luther; David Spaulding of Oklahoma City; Carolyn Keefer of Luther and Karreen Mathis and husband, Jamie of Bethany. She is also survived by nine grandchildren – James Young and wife, Tara of Kansas; Stephanie Markwell and husband, Todd of Kansas; Tyler Mathis and wife, Michelle of Yukon; Jay O’Ryan of Luther; Gabrielle Spaulding of Edmond; Dakota Mathis and wife, Katherine of Warr Acres; Kyle Keefer of Luther; Shyanne Keefer of Luther and Caden Mathis of Bethany, and nine great-grandchildren Alex, Jacob, Emily, Reese, Jasper, Braxton, Mercedes, Obsidian and Oliver.
Betty was a loving mother, grandma, and great-grandma. She loved the country life and watching the birds. The viewing will be on February 3, 2025, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Boydston-Bailey Funeral Home, 105 S Main. A funeral service will be Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church, 104 S Cedar.
