NEWS RELEASE | Shawnee, OK—The HERPS Exotic Reptile & Pet Show, one of the largest reptile expos in the United States, will return to Shawnee’s Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center on January 11–12, 2025. The two-day event will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore a world of exotic animals and pet supplies.
You may be asking yourself, “What is a Herp?” A herp is a collective term for amphibians and reptiles. The word “herp” is short for herpetofauna, which comes from the Greek root word herpetón, meaning “creeping animal”. Some common herps, or reptiles and amphibians, include: frogs, salamanders, caecilians, turtles, snakes, crocodilians, and tuataras.
Herpetology is the scientific study of herps, and a herpetologist is a zoologist who specializes in these animals. Herping is the act of searching for herps, which can be done in many places, from backyards to remote locations.
Herps lovers choose ball pythons, frogs, turtles, iguanas, or tuataras over the ordinary (though lovable) dog or cat for pets.
This weekend’s HERPS show has become a staple for reptile enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike, known for its clean, professional, and family-friendly atmosphere. Attendees can expect a diverse array of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, small mammals, and pet supplies, as well as the chance to meet expert breeders and industry professionals.
“With nearly a decade of hosting HERPS at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center, this event has built an incredible following and strong relationships in our community,” said Stacy Cramer Moore, Shawnee’s Tourism Director. “Both our citizens and out-of-town guests look forward to this show every year. It’s a great example of how Shawnee can host fun, educational events that bring people together and showcase the versatility of our expo center.”
HERPS Exotic Reptile & Pet Show organizers pointed out, “It is of the utmost importance to us to offer a safe environment to interact with these creatures for both the herps and the humans. We are big fans of reptiles, and we are happy to bring the reptile world to the US cities and share it with people. Our shows are family events where everyone can see exotic animals and spend the weekend in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
