Luther Lions Fall to Top Ranked Dale

Boys Basketball Heads to Talihina Tournament Thursday

A hard-fought battle from the Luther Lions at Dale went downhill fast after they gave the Dale Pirates ten free throw points in the last two minutes, making the final score Dale 57, Luther 45. It was the Lions first lost in the new season.

From the start, the match was set to be a watcher as Dale is ranked first in the OSSAA 2A rankings and Luther is ranked sixth. The Lions kept within five points of the Pirates most of the game, even going ahead of them for a while in the fourth period.

Junior Tyler Becker scored 19, leading the Lions for points. Junior Cole Mills also had a good night, earning eight points and six rebounds.

Senior Syrus Grisby fouled out in the last three minutes of the game, keeping his points at eight for the night but he led the Lions in rebounds with seven. Nick Hines also fouled out in the last few minutes of the game. With four more fouls after that, the Pirates made ten out of 12 of free throws.

“The road to athletic greatness is not marked by perfection, but the ability to constantly overcome adversity and failure,” Coach Matt Jones tweeted after the game.

The Lions head to Talihina for the CNIT tournament Thursday through Saturday.
