The Luther Lions hosted the Chandler Lions Friday night on the hardwoods. It was a dramatic evening for hoops with the Lady Lions dropping a heartbreaker to Chandler in their second double-over-time battle (the previous one was against Jones). Heard in the stands, Chandler had more height, Luther had more heart. That heart includes commitment and non-stop going to work. As an example, junior Johnna Stottlemyre spent this whole weekend between gyms and show pens while nursing an injury. She showed her goats on Friday during the day in Shawnee (and won), came home to play ball. Saturday she showed again in Kellyville – winning Overall Champion and Champion Senior Showman (among other awards). She had planned to come back in time for the Lions’ game at Mount Saint Mary’s Saturday night but sat out due to an injury. Both the Ladies and Boys lost to MSM.
The boys’ team had an easier time of it, with the Luther Lions routing another Hwy 66 rival, Luther 78 to Chandler 57. The tip-off included a nod to Senior Jacob Broudy, who is rebabbing a football season injury. He got to suit up and step on the court for the tip, then a quick time-out, so he could cheer on his brothers back on the bench.
It was also Senior night Friday night where winter athletes were recognized: Brianna Gabe, Tyler Leftwich, Gaby Leonard, Kiley Morphis, Kaci Price, Apryl Campos, Nick Brackin, Dawson Pappe, Chad Pridemore and Jacob Broudy.
