Preserve Your Memories: Join the Luther Memory Project for a Free Scanning Day

UPDATE 3/24/25 – Due to the wildfires that have impacted the Luther community, we have rescheduled both Memory Projects. Please join us on Saturday, April 26, at the Luther Community Center on Hogback Rd to collect and preserve Luther’s history! We will be able to scan photos and documents and will have a camera to document larger items. We will also make appointments to record oral histories.

The Metropolitan Library System and the Luther Historical Society are teaming up to host two upcoming events dedicated to preserving your cherished memories. Both events will be at the Luther Community Center, 18120 Hogback Road, on Tuesday, March 25, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and Saturday, April 5, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. NEW DATE April 26 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. This is your chance to safeguard your family’s history by creating digital copies of your most treasured items.

Why Participate?

Your photos, letters, and documents are more than just paper—they’re pieces of your personal history. Over time, these items can fade, tear, or get lost. By creating digital copies, you can ensure they’re preserved for future generations.

What to Expect

  • Protect Your Memories: Volunteers will scan your items, creating high-quality digital copies that will last years.
  • Easy and Convenient: Simply bring your items, and the volunteers will handle the scanning process for you.
  • No Cost: This service is free, making it accessible to everyone in the community. The Metropolitan Library System is funded through Oklahoma County property taxes.

What to Bring

You’re encouraged to bring any personal items you’d like to preserve digitally, including:

  • Family photos and keepsakes, such as newspaper clippings
  • Letters, postcards, and event programs
  • Newspaper clippings or other documents
  • Any other personal items that hold sentimental or historical value

Please note: Items must be 11 x 17 inches or smaller to be scanned.

Contribute to the Luther Historical Society Collection

If you’re interested, the items you bring for scanning can be added to the Luther Historical Society Collection in the Special Collections and Research Archive—with your written permission, of course. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your family’s story with the broader community.

The library is also collecting personal and family histories through oral history interviews. This event is the perfect place to start if you’d like to learn more about how you can participate.
