OBITUARY | Carolyn Lawson

Carolyn Louise Lawson (82) was born in Luther, Oklahoma, on July 6, 1942, to Max Pickle and Grace (Bryan) Pickle and passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on December 18, 2024. She was raised on a farm north of Luther alongside her siblings Max (Dowsky), Danny Ray, and Maxine.

Carolyn attended Luther schools, graduating in 1960. Following high school, she attended Central State Cosmetology School and married the love of her life, Jerry Lawson. Together, they raised three children and were married for 55 years. While raising her children, she ran her salon from home before moving it to Main Street in Luther. Carolyn furthered her career as a cosmetology instructor, advancing to master instructor. She taught in Oklahoma City for many years.

She expanded her business with her daughter, Cindy, opening International Cuts at Will Rogers World Airport, and then growing to a third location in Edmond. Carolyn loved what she did and the many people she met along the way. She is the only stylist who never raised her prices. Ten dollar haircuts were her specialty and she would not budge. It was never about the money with her; it was always about the relationships and conversations that meant the most to her. She loved people and they loved her.

Her last hairstyle and cut was in 2022 in her home before going to stay with her youngest daughter in Marlow, Oklahoma. Carolyn also served as a Luther city council member and worked for a short time at Luther Public Schools. She was always full of life and her laugh could be heard all the way down Main Street. She never held a grudge, took care of many, and always had a smile and laugh for all. To know her was to love her.
