OBITUARY | Cheri Langston

Cheryl Joyce Newland Langston, 69, of Luther, Oklahoma, passed from this life on November 23, 2024. Cheri was born November 23, 1955, in Oakland, California, to H. Joe Newland and Barbara Ludlam Newland. Cheri lived in Oakland, California, until 1959, before she moved to Newton, Kansas. In 1968, she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, and attended Edmond Memorial High School, where she played the flute in the concert band and was a twirler during marching season. She graduated from EMHS in 1974 and furthered her education, earning a chemistry degree from Central State College (UCO).

Cheri worked as a dental assistant before following her heart and becoming an interior designer. For over 30 years, she operated her own business, Langston Embroidery. Cheri married her soul mate, Tommy Langston, in 1991, and they lived both in Luther and Lake Eufaula. Passionate about fishing, she could often be found at the dock casting lines two or three times a day. She enjoyed riding the trails in the side-by-side and traveling in the motor home.

She was a board member of the Porum Landing Volunteer Fire Department at Lake Eufaula and a member of Women in Business of Edmond. She was an amazing seamstress and avid gardener. She loved being a “Mimi” to Harper Langston and Aunt to Will Ashby and Monica Dixon.

She is preceded in death by her father, Joe, and also her grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Langston of the home; her mother, Barbara Newland of Edmond; sister Vicki Ashby, and husband, Craig Ashby of Fredericksburg, Virginia; son JT Langston, and wife Brandy of Luther; grandchildren Harper, Bailey, and Carson, nephew William Ashby and Monica Dixon, great-grandchildren Hadley, Weston, and Lawson, as well as a host of other family and friends.
