The early morning runs paid off for four Luther High School students who qualified to run in the 2021 Class 3a Cross Country State Meet. Senior Brady Allen capped off his high school cross country career with a solid finish and an offer from a college recruiter who came to see him run.
Freshman Braden McNair led the trio of Luther boys on the 5K course at Edmond Santa Fe High School. Sophomore Bradley Gilliland shaved seconds off of his time with a strong push when the finish line was in sight and the crowd was cheering.
Luther’s Valeria Velasco set a school record with her finish in the top half of all females in the two-mile race.
NOTE: Regrets that her spectacular run is not in the video below. The logistics of parking, purchasing a quick $11.50 online OSSAA ticket and hustling to the course made me tardy.
Congratulations to the athletes and to Coach Tyler Snedeker. The team logged 270 miles in practice this season. Allen, considering multiple college scholarship offers, said he’ll take just a few days off and get some new running shoes before workouts begin for track season. Soon enough.
