The Luther Lions had a big Friday night at Wilson Field. It was homecoming night and Military Appreciation.
Homecoming court included seniors Elle Webster, Jessica Maddera, DaNeysha Hines, and the crowned queen, Sasha Wilson.

For military appreciation, veterans and active duty military got in free, and the National Guard honored Teacher of the Year nominee Emily Peters.

The Lions football team also wore camo jerseys to honor the Armed Forces. During the game, the Lions fought till the end, but came out with a one-touchdown deficit for a loss to Hennessey. The score was 28-22.

In the first quarter the Lions offense struggled to keep the ball, having only one possession the whole quarter. On that possession, running back Reed Wilson managed a 47-yard carry, but the ball soon turned over to the Eagles.
The defense pushed through the quarter with many tackles from Jake Lombard, DJ Scott and Gerald McCauley, and Hennessey’s offense came up empty-handed by the end of the quarter.
The second quarter saw more action from both teams. Lions defense had two sacks from Jayden McGee and Scott. The offense had a better quarter, earning a touchdown after Coleman Stastny caught a 61-yard touchdown pass. Braden Browning ran the two point conversion in for the Lions, and it looked like they would stay in the lead 8-7 going into halftime, but with 21 seconds left, Hennessey racked up another touchdown and extra point.
In the third quarter, Stastny made another touchdown catch, but it was called back on account of a block in the back. This cost the Lions everything. The Eagles scored in the third quarter, making the score 21-8.

In the fourth quarter, Cole Mills caught a 50-yard pass. Stastny had a 14-yard carry as well. Hennessey scored another touchdown, but the Lions countered with one of their own. Drew Scheer made a 12-yard catch, fumbled in the endzone and recovered the ball to make the score 28-14 with seven minutes left in the game. But Hennessey kept the ball for most of that time.
With 18 seconds left in the game, and the Lions back on offense, Scheer made another 14 yard catch for a touchdown. The Lions tried an onside kick, but Hennessey recovered and the game ended with the score 28-22.
Next Friday, October the Lions will travel to Alva.
