Now this this week’s Friday night. Lion Reporter Sydney Scheer made notes on the sideline during the rout with Millwood when the Lions took a loss, suffered some injuries but went home with their head already looking ahead. Perhaps the Falcons remembered the big loss they suffered last year when the teams met.

by Sydney Scheer
It’s half time, and boy, are we in the middle of a fight. The Luther Lions and the Millwood Falcons are not playing a game. We have showed up to a fight. When the yellow flags are flying, and the whistles are whistling, the penalties move the ball up and down the field–both in favor and not in favor of Luther. In the first half, we have seen interceptions, incomplete passes, and even trick plays. Emotions from all players and fans alike. The stakes are high for a game like tonightTonight will help determine how Luther will enter the bracket for a chance at the gold ball that is prized in this sport. After the first and second quarters, Millwood leads Luther 34-0.

mill6 mill5During the second half, Luther was still feeling the points deficit. Coming out after the first half, Luther’s starting players were getting beat up by the Falcons. 6 Tyler Becker came over to me on the sideline and said, “They’re just way too fast.” The Luther Lions played their hearts out. In the fourth quarter, a few of the junior varsity players took the field to allow the starters to rest.

Law enforcement was present, and starting fourth quarter, multiple officers were present on the Luther sideline. The fans in the stands were warned to relax, and sit back, before the whole visitor stadium would be escorted out. By this time, Luther was facing a 54 point deficit, with Millwood on top, 54-0.

Post-game saw somber hearts, heads hanging low, and silent voices of player, coach, and spectator alike. Sideline cleared in a timely manner and the stands cleared quickly. The Lion fans were escorted out of the stadium before the Millwood stands cleared. Each team wins some and loses some. Tonight is over, and it is time to look at the next opponent, as Luther goes home with a 60-0 loss in this week eight.
