LUTHER BUSINESS SERIES | Bison Blinds has a big surprise

In our ongoing series highlighting Luther’s small businesses, we’re checking in with Bison Blinds, a family-owned company specializing in custom window coverings. Since 2020, they’ve helped homeowners and businesses find the perfect fit for both function and style, transforming spaces one window at a time.

When winter weather shut down much of the region, Clint and Michelle Rayburn made the call to close —but they have some big news. Read on to hear how they navigated the storm, why local support is so crucial, and their exciting announcement about a new company, Bronco Blinds and Shades, manufacturing right here in Luther.

LRN: Was closing a tough decision?

Michelle Rayburn: We closed and it wasn’t a tough decision. No sale is worth someone getting hurt, its always tough to wonder if the weather really will do something but overall it’s a good reminder that safety is always less expensive than mistakes and injuries. We take the mindset to use the day as a “reward” or “bonus day” that you can sleep in, catch up or just veg. Work will be there soon enough.

LRN: How can we support you after the roads are clear, the temps get out of single digits, and you reopen?

MIchelle Rayburn: The best way to support us is to help spread the word. One of the hardest things to hear is that someone didn’t even know we were here. Word of mouth and local referrals mean everything to us. Share our website, mention Luther businesses in conversations, and even if you don’t need our services, let others know we’re here. We’re more than just a business—we’re your neighbors.

LRN: You have some big news. You’re expanding!

Michelle Rayburn: We have big news! We are launching a new window covering option. Bronco Blinds and Shades will offer flat rate pricing for faux wood blinds manufactured in Luther! You can order them online, and we will bring them over and install them within seven days! This means you can shop with us anytime, even on a snow day. We hope this opens up an affordable window covering option that you can get locally.

The “buy local” concept has been a big passion of ours and we couldn’t find an affordable and local manufacturer of faux wood blinds, so we decided to do it ourselves. It has been a big challenge but we are so excited to say it’s officially happening. The website launched today www.broncoblindsandshades.com

LRN: What’s something folks should know about the challenges (blessings?) of running your business in a small town like Luther?

Michelle Rayburn: We have the best team, and that’s because they are all from Luther. We love bringing attention to our small town when people ask where we are based.

Our challenge is that in a small town, people forget about us. If we had one ask, it’s that our town becomes a champion voice of their town’s businesses. The success of Luther comes from successful businesses and if we can grow together, we will all be better for it.
