Football is the light of Luther. The parents, friends, families, and spectators make up our community, and we call them the best motivators. FAMILY is the Lion Football way. They cheer us through the wins and pick us up from a tough loss. Thursday night, the team showing somber faces after Millwood failed to keep Luther’s winning streak alive, FAMILY went to the field house for motivating words and to move past the loss.

At the end of the game, I could quote a handful of Lion players who expressed wishes to play Millwood again in the playoffs. Most of them were seniors, and after two tough losses to Millwood in the 2016 and 2017 seasons — we understand why they want to make playoffs to meet the Falcons again, one last time.

Here is a quick quarterly recap of Thursday night:

In the 1st quarter, Millwood defense kept Luther offense to zero points, and Millwood scored 12. Millwood scored two touchdowns but did not complete the 2-point conversions. At the end of 1st quarter, 0-12, Millwood.

In the 2nd quarter, with 2:00 until halftime, #24 Dakota Pridemore caught a pass from #10 Peyton Wilson and found the Lion End Zone. The 2-point conversion failed. Millwood doesn’t find their end zone in the 2nd quarter until there was less than 1:00 minute on the clock. It was 6-20, Millwood on top at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Millwood scored early with just under 12:00 minutes to play in the quarter. Then Millwood grabbed an interception and scored again. It was 6-34 Millwood with 10:30 minutes remaining. The Falcons scored twice more in the 3rd quarter, making the score 6-50 entering the 4th quarter.

For the last quarter of football, with 9:45 on the clock, #26 Josh Butler found Luther’s Zone for 6 points, and the 2-point failed after it was replayed for a penalty. 12-50 with under 10 minutes to play. Millwood scored once with a final, 12-58. It was Luther’s first loss, and gave undefeated Millwood the District Championship.

The Luther Lions travel to Meeker on Friday, October 27th for 7:00 pm kickoff versus the Bulldogs. Travel with us to pack the stands and cheer the Lions to their 8th season win for Week 9 of the 2017 season. There are just two regular season games remaining before playoffs.
