Town of Luther Searches for new Town Manager with the Retirement of Scherrie Pidcock

Scherrie Pidcock became Luther’s first-ever town manager after joining the staff at Town Hall in 2016. She brought her 20 years of municipal government experience from the City of The Village. During her tenure at Luther, she has overseen operations, managed finances, secured millions of dollars in grants, and maintained strong audit practices.

She also has been pivotal in town operations ranging from monitoring water quality checks, stewarding the dreaded water and sewer line breaks (and cheering on the public works staff as they have to work in mud holes), shepherding the move from “old Town Hall” to “new Town Hall” on Main Street, keeping up with payroll, office technology and operations, cutting costs where possible, assembling monthly agenda and reports, making the budget work month after month, handling all of the grant paperwork, and writing all of those minutes from every single meeting. Then there was her steady leadership during disaster and tragedy.

Her contributions also extended to community initiatives. She was a founder of Josephine’s Farmers Market, a business owner,  and served on the leadership team for the Luther Pecan Festival. In 2019, the Oklahoma Municipal League named her the inaugural Municipal Woman of the Year for cities under 5,000 residents. In her acceptance speech, she said, “I love my town, ‘L.A.’ Luther America!  I love serving in my town, and trying to do the best I can in this position for the citizens of our town.”

One of Pidcock’s recent projects was the completion and opening of the new Luther Public Works Shop on January 9, 2026, funded largely by a Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant.

As Pidcock retires, the town has posted the Town Manager position, with applications accepted until February 9, 2026.

Colleagues and current and former officials share thoughts on her service:

Trustee Jerrod Davis: “Scherrie Pidcock has been the lifeline this town needed to recover from some rough patches. Over the last few years, she has led her team of like-minded public servants like very few others ever could. When I joined the Board of Trustees, I knew that Scherrie was someone I could trust, someone I could learn from, someone I could discuss the hard things with, and someone I could come out the other side with a better understanding. It will still be sad to not have her leadership and friendship at Town Hall every day.”

Trustee Carla Caruthers: “Scherrie is the calm voice of Luther. When things are going haywire, she always remains calm. She gives her all to this town and never takes time for herself (that I have noticed), she is just always there or a phone call away. I pray she enjoys every moment with her dad and her family. Nobody deserves it more.”

Fire Chief Joseph Figueroa: Scherrie has been an amazing mentor and leader in this town for many years. She, along with many others, took a chance on me becoming the Fire Chief for this town, and I will forever be grateful. She has helped me grow in my position and in my professional life. I will never be able to express the gratitude I have for her patience with me. She will forever be a friend and mentor.

The Luther Board of Trustees has an enormous task ahead to fill the shoes of Mrs. Pidcock. I have the utmost confidence that they will choose a worthy successor, but I know deep in my heart that there will never be another Scherrie. She will be sorely missed in Luther Town Hall. She is the glue that holds everything together in this town, and the next person up will undoubtedly have an enormous role to fill.

I am happy for Scherrie and her family. Her retirement is absolutely deserved, and I pray she has many, many years of good times with her family, whom I know she cherishes deeply.

Thank you for everything, Scherrie. Thank you for teaching me, for your kindness, and for simply always being yourself! I will miss you greatly and will 100% have to come visit you and the family out on the farm.

Utility Clerk Cathy Schmitz: “It is both sad and exciting to receive the news of Scherrie’s retirement. Sad that she will not be around day to day, leading us, but excited that she gets to enjoy the fruits of her many years in municipal government. Well deserved. We look forward to the new town manager having the same knowledge, integrity, determination, and desire to serve the public that Scherrie has had.”

Former Court Clerk and Trustee Valarie Braxton: “With each passing month, I got to witness firsthand how many different hats a town employee had to wear, and that you really had to have a heart for public service to enjoy the job. Scherrie has the biggest heart of us all.”

Former Trustee Trandy Langston: “She is, without a doubt, one of the biggest assets to the town and its operations. Hiring her, in my opinion, was one of the best decisions our board ever made. There are not enough words to describe what her time with the town has meant. Scherrie, you will be greatly missed, my friend.”

Former Mayor Jenni White: “Sherrie Pidcock has run this town with finesse, grace, and spectacular efficiency from the moment she was hired and I took office. Her guidance was invaluable – as was her friendship. Sherrie has been such a pivotal piece of the workings of this town that I only hope it can carry on in her absence.”

Pidcock will continue to serve as Town Manager until April. Expect her to stay connected to support the transition and apply her talent and experience where needed. We never know, maybe she’ll figure out a way to build a lazy river float experience!
